Eco Friendly Cat Furniture

While surfing the web, I saw this Kickstarter project for Eco Cat furniture included in my list of recommended sites. I thought it was uniquely interesting, and I wanted to write a brief post about it.

For those who aren’t aware of what Kickstarter is, it’s a site where anyone who has an idea they want to make into a reality can set up a project. The objective is to get funding to back their project. In return for donations, they typically offer products at a discounted price and promotional materials such as t-shirts, mugs, backpacks and a host of other items.

Naturally Made Cat Furniture

Eco Cat Furniture has a Kickstarter to make environmentally friendly and socially responsible cat furniture. These are climbing shelving type units to be bolted into the studs of your house walls. What makes their product unique is they create it from reclaimed wood which reduces the carbon footprint of the products. You can check it out here.

The wood is repurposed from barns, fence posts, and hardwood floors. Eco Cat Furniture creates the units from only the wood and American steel. There is no carpet, glue, dyes, stains, paints, waxes or oils. The shelves seem to have a unique rustic look, and the design is meant to compliment your cat’s natural climbing instinct in mind.

Space Saving Designed Cat Climbing Shelves

On the Kickstarter page, there are several examples of the products with their cat testing it out. As you will see, the idea is to free up your floor space. Cat trees can use up a lot of space. Here is an option to allow your cats to climb and feel safe but not have massive furniture structures. There are many pictures and some videos for anyone interested in checking out the project.

Here’s a picture from the site to give you an idea of what it looks like, but if this is something that interests you then definitely take a look at their campaign. There are tons of pictures on the page. Some are simple shelves, while others are ladders and switchbacks.

Disclaimer:  Also, I want to let you know that at the writing of this article, I have no affiliation with the product, the company or the owners. And I don’t know any of the people involved in the project personally.

I decided to write about it because I like to be environmentally friendly as much as possible and like the premise of the company. I know cat owners typically have cat furniture, and this is a new product which looks pretty cool.

My cats love their cat trees and can often be found hanging out in them. They sleep in them and sit together on different levels all the time. I’m sure they’d be happy to get some vertical shelving to be climbing up the walls.
